I write this ahead of the mid-term elections. Not knowing the outcome (as you hopefully do at this point) I am hopeful. Hopeful that this election has been utilized to turn a corner and begin a process of restoration and hope in our country.
That said, I’m not oblivious to the likelihood of chaos. Precedent for that looms large. But you know what? Our faith knows the landscape of both hope and chaos very well. The gospel story from Christmas to Easter swirls in the winds of what could have been and what might be.
The unfailing truth is this: God doesn’t walk away. Neither victory nor defeat is the end of the story. There is always a next chapter and God smooths the pages of that chapter so we can write it as a lament or as an exultation but always with a trust in God’s steadfast companionship.
These are days that are held by God. I hope you find yourself in worship on Sunday mornings going forward as the future begins to crack open in new ways; sometimes in exciting ways and sometimes in apprehensive ways but never absent the light of God.
See you in church,
–Rev. Dominic
