Three things make up the heart of any Christian community: Worship, Fellowship, and Mission.
We are blessed to be in a church that excels at all three! I wonder sometimes, though, if we fully appreciate how much we are actually doing here at FCC. I was looking at the calendar and just in the past couple of months we have done some amazing work!
When it comes to worship we have been blessed with wonderful music, gifted Lay Readers, members joining, and relevant themes that have helped guide us through tumultuous times.
When it comes to mission work, there is joy among those who cook and serve meals for Bread of Life, renewed energy for those working with Immigrant Support Alliance, continued support for our Pantry of Hope and Souper Bowl of Caring, and our children and youth are building momentum for Heifer Project International. And speaking of children and youth, programming for them has caused many of those young people to be the ones who bring their parents to church on Sundays because of how much they love their classes.
And fellowship? Along with the recent Chili Cook Off, our Men’s Group sponsored an evening of learning about Haiti, our Women’s Circle 4 sponsored an afternoon with a noted author, and we enjoyed a great Pancake Supper before worship on Ash Wednesday. Many in our church shared a great evening of community building at the fundraiser for the Carbonneau family as well. And not only that (to let you in on a secret), work is being done to organize another social night at Hannah’s Brewery!
All this is to say that we are an active church. More active than we realize! In the end, however, everything we do really falls under the umbrella of mission work. Those three key elements of worship, fellowship, and mission are the pillars of the mission to which Christ calls us.
All that we do fulfills our mission to be a place that is countercultural in our faithful practice of love, peace, healing, hope, and joy. It fulfills our mission to be a wellspring of God’s restoration and purposeful living in a desert of separation, negativity and hatred.
So to everyone, thank you for being the church God calls us to be! We are doing good work here and still more good things lie ahead.
See you in church,
–Rev. Dominic
