The One Constant

Despite my best efforts, I cannot see the future.  It sure would come in handy, though, because I write this before election day but you will receive it after election day.

Not knowing the outcome but knowing that anxiety has been extremely high for many if not most people as election day draws near, let me just share a simple message:

The saying that “the only constant is change” is not really true.  I don’t care how radically things may shift in life or in the world, there is an undeniable constant and that is God’s companionship and God’s love.

God did not set the world spinning and then walk away.  Through all of the triumphs and tragedies, the ups and downs of human history, God has been woven into it all.

That doesn’t mean that everything has gone smoothly.  No doubt about that.  But God has been intimately intertwined with this world and our lives to such an extent that God came among us as one of us.

God came to us in Jesus Christ and Christ’s death and resurrection is the ultimate and only assurance that we will ever need.  Through those events, we can be sure, really sure, that we are not alone and that no storm, not even death itself will have the last word.

So whether Tuesday brings rejoicing or tears, we are all held in a divine light that will never, ever waiver.  It is there to not only assure us but also inspire us to always be about the work of building a better tomorrow.

See you in church,
