As our Welcome Back month here at First Congregational Church continues, I am aware that, for many people, re-entry from the summer can be a little more than we bargain for.
Not only are we coming back to FCC to begin another great program year, we are also coming back to school, back to work (maybe with more responsibilities), and back to a more hectic schedule than we were enjoying just a couple of weeks ago.
In the midst of the jumble of schedules and events that are stacking up on your calendar, it might be tempting to let church attendance slide. Here’s why that’s a bad idea: Without the routine of Sunday worship and church involvement, your life will become more stressful; guaranteed.
Why? Well, because intentional development of your spiritual/interior life through our church will cause the rest of your busy life to fall into place. Here you will find renewed meaning in what you do as you see your life as a ministry in the name of Christ. You will find a church alive with children and youth living and growing in discipleship. You will find support for the rocky times and many ways to make an impact in the wider community and the world through tangible expressions of God’s compassion and justice.
In short, we offer our church as a place to receive spiritual grounding—a centering place for self-redefinition and community activism.
So whether your summer was rewarding or challenging, whether your fall has started with chaos or peace of mind, the start of our new program year is a time to give thanks for God’s abiding presence in your life.
Now is the time to re-frame your living as a beloved child of God.
See you in church,
–Rev. Dominic
