Sabbath Season

This Sunday is our Annual Outdoor Worship Service on the front lawn of our church!  We hope you can join us as we pray, sing, listen to scripture and celebrate all that has been accomplished during this program year.

What follows is what might be called our Sabbath season.  It is a time when we ramp back our programming and worship schedule not only so that church staff can take their vacation time, but also in order to give all of those who work so hard on the different ministries at our church a time to rest and rejuvenate.

This pattern allows us to hit the ground running in September with a bang—renewed in energy and in spirit!  I firmly believe that this is a faithful approach to summer since Sabbath is a deeply rooted aspect of who we are as people of faith; from the earliest days of creation when God rested on the seventh day to the frequent times that Jesus “took time apart” from his disciples and the crowds in order to deepen his connection with God in new ways.

Departing from daily and weekly routines has great value in faith formation because it causes you to see things from a different angle and experience things in new ways and that includes your relationship with God.

As we head into July and August, may you continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God’s wholeness and compassion.  May you feel those “ties the bind” which keep us connected to one another regardless of separation.

Above all, may you find these weeks to be restorative so that you can join us for Welcome Back Sunday feeling grounded and re-centered in who you are as a child of God and a disciple of Jesus Christ.

A happy and fulfilling summer to you all!

See you in church,

–Rev. Dominic
